Under Four Nursery project is located on a 400 m2 lot which is too small for its program. Usually the functions of a nursery are laid out in one level to make the circulation easier for children. However, due to the limited plot size, the design stacked the program vertically, leaving about half the plot for a shaded playground. There are four levels of classrooms overlook a central exciting and inviting circulation core. Two levels on each side of the core, and the levels are connected via a single flight of stairs. The ground level houses the youngest children that have yet to learn how to climb stairs, and the highest level has the oldest students. The building's only street façade is composed out of structural members and glass communicating the purity and transparency of children and the nursery. The transparency of this façade also displays the building purpose to the public. The glazing is then shaded by an array of vertical poles. The density of the vertical poles dissipates as it moves away from the harsh west sun rays. The outcome is a settle and a confident architecture which has pragmatically pursued its function and form.
