Affordable housing is generally linked to low cost and mass production. Especially single detached mass produced housing projects suffer from the monotony of repetition and poor construction and architectural quality. Any housing development is in essence and urban endeavor. Thus, this proposal by Massive Order took into consideration both the architectural and urban aspects of the affordable housing project for Kuwait’s Public Authority for Housing Welfare. The proposal focused on three main objectives:
In the current situation of Kuwait suburbs, pedestrians have nowhere to walk due to the fact that the sidewalks are used mainly as parking space. Hence, pedestrian rights must be ensured, by clearly demarcating parking spaces and pedestrian walkways.
To avoid the monotony of repetition, the mass production of affordable dethatched housing must have architectural variety. The variation ought to be in both over all massing and details, making for a more pleasant urban experience.
