360 House

Lately, a lot of home owners in Kuwait ask for a house that is essentially a small apartment building where the owner becomes a landlord of sort.  In the summer of 2017, we were given a requirement to design a house on a 375m2 corner lot, which is on the smaller end of Kuwaiti typical plot sizes. The program did not call for the popular stack of apartments, instead the clients desired a home for their rather modern Kuwaiti lifestyle.  The program consists of a gym, a dip-pool, a kid’s playroom, an outdoor gathering space, a dywania (men social space), an indoor green place, and the typical service, living and sleeping quarters. 

The proposed form revolves around three interconnected outdoor spaces around which the program is built.  The pool yard is tucked in the ground floor, surrounded by the three floor mass to achieve the maximum privacy required.  The second and main out door space is a large terrace off of the living room in the first floor.  The terrace overlook inward to the pool yard and out to the neighborhood. Finally, the master bedroom balcony that views down on part of the terrace and out towards the landscaped area of the neighboring popular 360 mall.
